Removing asbestos during a remodel

We bought our house knowing it needed a fair bit of work, but we could never have guessed how complicated the job would get in the end. It turns out not only do we have asbestos in the walls, but also, at some point, the previous owners had some asbestos insulation put in the roof. There are a lot more precautions that we need to make as result but, I'll feel a lot better knowing we aren't cooking and eating our meals near asbestos. Our remodeling contractor has been great and has stepped us through the whole process. Join us on our remodeling journey!

Why a Custom Kitchen Design Would Be a Good Investment

by Joanne Sullivan

Considering that your kitchen is the heart of your residence, it should be able to reflect your personal style. However, homeowners who move into pre-constructed buildings tend to settle for minor remodelling to enhance the aesthetics of the kitchen rather than opt for a full reconstruction. Although extensive reconstruction can be expensive, you need to view it as a long-term investment in your home. Custom kitchens not only increase the value of the premises, but they also provide you with a degree of customisation you will not get by just changing a few aspects here and there. Below are reasons why a custom kitchen design would be a welcome investment for your home.

Custom kitchens enhance the longevity of the space

When you opt for a complete kitchen remodel, all the materials that are used in the kitchen will be new. In addition to this, the kitchen designer will provide you with a contemporary layout and modern appliances that will update the look and style of the kitchen. The increased quality of the kitchen will make it less likely for you to engage in repairs and renovations due to the ageing of the space. Moreover, having your precise preferences in the new kitchen decreases the chances of you wanting to upgrade the style of your kitchen quickly. Overall, a completely remodelled custom kitchen would provide you with greater longevity than a few minor renovations would.

Custom kitchens provide for personalised supplies

One thing to bear in mind about a pre-constructed kitchen is that you had no say in what materials were used. Thus, you have to settle for what you find or choose to refinish cabinetry, replace benchtops, install new flooring and more. Moreover, some kitchens may have low-quality materials that are easily susceptible to damage, which can become a recurring cost for you as you seek repairs on a regular basis. With a custom kitchen, you have full control over which materials should be used. As such, you get the chance to decide which aspects of the kitchen you will splurge on with expensive materials and which areas can do fine with cheaper options. Another benefit of personalising the supplies that are used for your custom kitchen is that you can ensure that the space is as energy saving and eco-friendly as possible.

Custom kitchen will fit your individual needs

Everyone has their unique cooking style and space preferences for the kitchen. Nevertheless, since stock kitchens are constructed for mass appeal, they tend to have somewhat similar layouts. A custom kitchen gives you the flexibility to design your kitchen in accordance to your needs. For instance, if you are tall, you can have your cabinetry installed much higher than normal. You also get the chance to decrease or increase your storage based on your preferences.
