Removing asbestos during a remodel

We bought our house knowing it needed a fair bit of work, but we could never have guessed how complicated the job would get in the end. It turns out not only do we have asbestos in the walls, but also, at some point, the previous owners had some asbestos insulation put in the roof. There are a lot more precautions that we need to make as result but, I'll feel a lot better knowing we aren't cooking and eating our meals near asbestos. Our remodeling contractor has been great and has stepped us through the whole process. Join us on our remodeling journey!

Glass Splashbacks: Various Pros for Your Kitchen and Bathroom

by Joanne Sullivan

Some homeowners may be averse to the thought of embarking on renovations as they assume it would be both expensive as well as time-consuming. Extensive renovations, granted, will cost an arm and a leg. Nevertheless, this does not mean that you have to settle for your home looking drab and outdated. An easy way to update the appearance of various rooms such as the bathroom or the kitchen would be the addition of splashbacks. Over the years, glass has become an attractive option for homeowners and renovation contractors alike due to the high functionality this material provides as well as enhanced aesthetic appeal. So what are the different advantages that glass splashbacks provide your kitchen or bathroom?

Glass splashbacks are simple to maintain

When updating the appearance of your home, you should consider materials that will be easy to keep pristine. Otherwise, you will find yourself tasked with arduous maintenance measures that can be cumbersome in the long run. Glass splashbacks are impervious, so they will not be susceptible to staining. Moreover, their smooth surface makes it easy to eliminate grime that will accumulate on them. To keep your splashbacks clean, all you would have to do is wipe them down as spills occur.

Glass splashbacks are heat resistant

Another advantage of glass splashbacks is that they will not degrade over time due to scorching. Other materials, such as vinyl or even ceramics, will eventually become an eyesore due to become singed. Thus, you will find some homeowners choosing not to install splashbacks over their cooktops, as they do not want to contend with replacing them after a short time. The lack of splashbacks then leaves your walls vulnerable to damage from the increased heat, and you may end up having to repaint your walls on a regular basis. Since these splashbacks are made from toughened glass, they are capable of withstanding high temperatures without acquiring any aesthetic damages. Hence, your kitchen stays attractive for longer.

Glass splashbacks afford you numerous style choices

An assumption some individuals may have about glass splashbacks is that they only come in the clear variety. The truth is that you have an assortment of style options to choose from, which ensures that you can find splashbacks to complement or match your current interior décor theme. For instance, you can opt for coloured glass, which will not fade over time as the pigment is added to the glass during the manufacturing stage. On the other hand, you can opt for mirrored glass, which will enhance the lighting in your kitchen or bathroom while making it appear larger than it is.
