Removing asbestos during a remodel

We bought our house knowing it needed a fair bit of work, but we could never have guessed how complicated the job would get in the end. It turns out not only do we have asbestos in the walls, but also, at some point, the previous owners had some asbestos insulation put in the roof. There are a lot more precautions that we need to make as result but, I'll feel a lot better knowing we aren't cooking and eating our meals near asbestos. Our remodeling contractor has been great and has stepped us through the whole process. Join us on our remodeling journey!

Stone Benchtops: Why Granite Complements Any Residence

by Joanne Sullivan

Considering the wide assortment of stone materials that you can select when looking for new benchtops, the process can seem tedious and arduous. If you would like to whittle down your options without having to compromise on the quality of your material, then you may want to consider granite. This type of stone offers an array of benefits that makes it stand out from other stone materials. So why would granite benchtops complement any residence they are installed in?

Granite offers you durability

For your benchtops to be long lasting, they need to be innately durable. Materials such as marble may be attractive and luxurious, but they also have the propensity to become etched and scratched if they are not handled with care. Granite, on the other hand, can be subjected to high impact on a consistent basis without acquiring superficial damages that would impact its overall appearance. Since your benchtops will be exposed to regular use, you should opt for granite, as it will hold up beautifully to wear and tear.

Granite offers you a unique appearance

For some homeowners, uniqueness in their home is a priority, as they do not want their residence to resemble everyone else's. Uniqueness also makes your home distinctly yours, giving you a sense of pride in your interior décor. Granite is one of the stone materials that can offer your complete uniqueness, as no two slabs of stone are alike. The granite is mined directly from the earth before it is cut into various shapes and sizes. Therefore, you can be assured that no two benchtops in your kitchen, or anywhere else for that matter, will be identical. The granite also comes in a variety of designs, which come about naturally due to the swirls, specks and veins on the stone.

Granite offers you an increased resale value

When making renovations to your home, you should always opt for materials and additions that will enhance the overall value of the residence. Thus, in the event that you choose to put your home on the market, you can rest assured that it will have a higher value than other houses in the neighbourhood. Granite is one of those materials that will often increase the value of a home. Although the granite is highly functional, it also adds a sense of luxury to your kitchen. In addition to this, granite is not a fad. It stays a classic material that will be in demand for years to come.
